Some pieces carry history in their glaze.

This magnificent pair of Victorian Staffordshire flatback equestrian figurines depicts the Prince of Wales — the future King Edward VII — and his Princess, both mounted on horseback in the proud tradition of English commemorative pottery.

Produced circa 1860s to celebrate one of the most beloved royal couples of the Victorian era, these figures were made to be displayed together, facing each other on a mantle or fireplace shelf.

The Prince rides in his white coat, top hat in hand, confident and composed. The Princess sits side-saddle in lavender, her plumed hat perfectly Victorian. Both bases are titled in the classic Staffordshire lettering — "Prince of Wales" and "Princess" — a hallmark of authentic period pieces.

Condition is consistent with 160+ years of life — age-appropriate wear, minor paint variations, the honest patina of genuine antique pottery. Not a reproduction. Not a later copy. The real thing. These were made to last centuries. They have.
