There is something quietly commanding about this piece. It doesn't ask for attention — it simply expects it.

This exceptional Victorian double inkstand brings together ebonized wood, warm walnut banding, and elaborate ormolu brass mounts in a form that was designed to sit at the center of a serious writer's world. The braided serpent handle rising from the center is pure Victorian theater — bold, symbolic, and masterfully cast. Two original faceted glass inkwells flank it on either side, with a recessed pen trough running beneath.

Bone floral inlay at the corners adds lightness to what could otherwise be a very serious object. The result is a piece that balances drama with elegance — exactly as the Victorians intended.

Circa 1860–1880. English. A rare find in this condition.
